In 1942, Fearless was converted into an aircraft carrier. The ship's flight deck was extended and strengthened, and it was equipped with a hangar for storing and maintaining aircraft. Fearless then served in the Far East Campaign, where it provided air support for the British forces fighting in Burma and Malaya.

After the war, HMS Fearless was used as a training ship for the Royal Navy. The ship was decommissioned in 1968 and was sold for scrap in 1972.
